The Trap Door is
primarily a children's clay animation show from the mid 1980's
aired in the UK, despite it being initial a kids show its found
a new audience with those that have grown up with it over the
past three decades. It was created by both Terry Brain and Charlie
Mills and ran for a total of forty episodes over two whole
series. All the voices were provided by the legendary Willie Rushton,
while the now famous theme tune was written by Bob Heatlie. Each show lasted around five minutes, and the lead
character Berk often encountered numerous bizarre creatures that
crept out The Trap Door, while serving his master, otherwise known
as The Thing Upstairs. He wasn't alone however, he had his
friends moaning Boni and mischievous Drutt to assist him in his
daily adventures.
The show has seen many incarnations over the years, including the
release of the show on VHS tapes (although not in a complete
collection), and more recently on DVD entitled The Trap Door -
Complete Collection, which has proved to be highly successful,
specifically in the United Kingdom. For those old enough to
remember it was even released as a computer game called The Trap
Door, and was followed up by Through The Trap Door. Both these games were released
in the mid 1980's on the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and not
forgetting the Commodore 64. If that wasn't enough the merchandise
included a board game entitled Berk's Trapdoor Game. |
